Gustavs
Skenders
creator of circumstances

I am a creative with a personal approach, and always connecting the otherwise unseen dots, I bring an analytical, yet emotional touch to my projects.

With a technical and extensive background in photography, I have since moved on to more conceptual work, both in the realm of advertising, as well as beyond, through performance, video, and poetry, which I have explored during my studies at the Willem de Kooning academy in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

I create circumstances. Whether the energy I bring to a brainstorming session, or performing to tell a story about loving myself, or a brand activation that brings people together, it's all about those circumstances.

Together with Joris Voeten, we form Voesken.

TU - YOU, HERE

Meaning “you” in Latvian (Gustavs) and “here” in Polish (Bianka), Tu started as a project about developing a meeting space, where you could meet some previously unseen, or not well-known side of yourself.

Carl Gustav Jung had developed a theory about one's shadow - the oppressed side of a personality. All of the oppressed, unwanted character traits, feelings, being there just behind anyone, just like a shadow, since you cannot escape it.

Thus, Tu was born. You, here, combines the importance of emrbacing yourself and the space you do so within. As you enter the space, put on the suit, stand on the cross and put on a VR headset, you immediately see the same thing you did in real life. Just yourself, and a mirror in front of you. As the guiding voice tells you to explore yourself, your emotions and secrets, you enter this frenzy that the “shadows” around you cause, inspired by the music of Arcade Fire (Reflektor). As you meet yourself there, you start to question, whether or not you can trust the experience, and what you're seeing in front of you, as well as the intentions of the shadows around.

A mixed reality experience combining poetry, performance, interaction and self-reflection.
